U of T Tops Public University Ranking in North America

The University of Toronto ranked first among all public universities in North America in a new Times Higher Education report. The university remained a favorite of employers, who termed its graduates as ‘most employable’ in a new survey.

The report continues a strong showing of U of T, which has held the top position for the last eight years. The university ranked fourth in employ ability for graduates globally. This report relied on a survey of human resource managers globally to reach the findings.

According to Meric Gertler, the president of the University of Toronto, “This is terrific news for our recent graduates and current students, who have demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of a global pandemic and a rapidly changing job market.

He also added that the university fosters a culture of innovation with excellence in scholarship, equity, and sustainability. He believes employers around the world value these qualities.

The Paris-based research firm, Trendence, asked employers, “as a university dealing with international graduates, which universities are in your opinion the best in the world when it comes to graduate employ-ability?” The research report surveyed 8,820 recruiters and managers from all across the globe.

While most researchers (37.1%) came from Asia-Pacific, nearly 33.6% were based in Europe, and (20.8%) came from the Americas.

US, Europe, and China Continue to Lead Rankings

The new ranking places U of T among the world’s top 15 schools. This may be a huge moment of pride for the Canadian universities, as the country’s 4 other universities also enjoyed prestigious status among the ranking. Its other universities including, McGill university came 23rd, while the University of British Columbia ranked 28th, and Université de Montréal/HEC ranked 41st in the survey.

US universities have also salvaged pride with some of the best rankings including The California Institute of Technology, Harvard University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Universities from China, Germany, Japan, and France also met expectations with a strong showing.

Start-up Accelerators Continue to Drive Growth

The rankings display the growing clout of U of T in Canada. The university in the recent past has become the home of more than 500 research-based start-ups. Moreover, this achievement larger than any other Canadian university has generated more than $1.5 billion in investment.

With its 11 startup accelerators and more than 250 entrepreneurship-oriented courses, the university will likely remain ahead of the curve soon.

U of T has grabbed similar top rankings in U.S News & World Report’s Best Global Universities, Shanghai Ranking Consultancy’s Academic Ranking, QS World University Ranking, and National Taiwan University Ranking.
